According to court filings, Barnett carried a stun pistol in his trousers while in the speaker’s office and removed an envelope from the office.
Prosecutors claim he exited the Capitol holding the envelope in front of other protesters as if it were a “trophy.”
Prosecutors further claimed that Barnett went to the Capitol Rotunda and joined a front line of rioters fighting law enforcement personnel.
Barnett did not regret his behavior on January 6, which influenced his sentencing. “The defendant continues to claim that his behavior was akin to a 4-year-old temper tantrum,” said prosecutor Alison Prout.
During the sentence, Barnett addressed the court, declaring that he would appeal his case.
