In his first year as the OC, the Trailblazers achieved an average of 421 yards of total offense, including an impressive 300 yards per game through the air and an average of 31.4 points per game.

Before his stint with Dixie State, Bills spent a year as the offensive coordinator at Central Washington University (CWU).

He was crucial in helping the Wildcats win the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for the third time in a row in 2019 and compile a 7-4 record.

Thanks to the Bills’ guidance, the CWU offense was ranked first in points scored (41.8 points per game, which is #10 in NCAA DII), total yards (504.7 yards per game, which is #8 in NCAA DII), passing yards (293.1 yards per game, which is #14 in NCAA DII), total touchdowns (60, which is tied for 18th in NCAA DII), and passing touchdowns (37), and second overall in rushing (211.6 yards per game, which is #29 in NCAA DII).

Before his time at CWU, Bills coached at Weber State for three seasons, starting in 2016. In his first two seasons with the Wildcats, Bills served as the wide receivers coach before being promoted to quarterbacks coach before the 2018 season. 

During that season, he was able to help lead Weber State to its second of three consecutive Big Sky Conference championships (10-3/7-1 BSC) and the NCAA FCS Playoff quarterfinal round. In 2018 alone, Wildcat quarterbacks threw for 2,348 yards and 19 touchdowns, which are impressive stats.

Kelly Bills served as a graduate assistant coach at Brigham Young University (BYU) for five seasons, from 2008 to 2012, under the leadership of then-head coach Bronco Mendenhall. 

He started as the offensive quality control coach for the Cougars during the 2008 and 2009 seasons, where he worked with wide receivers and quarterbacks.

From 2010 to 2012, he assisted in coaching quarterbacks and the offensive line. During his tenure at BYU, the team had a record of 46-19 and made five consecutive appearances in bowl games.
