Ultimately, he decided against being forced onto the field in subfreezing conditions and favored decent weather and personal safety.

He claimed that his choice had worked out well for both sides.

On March 16, 2022, ESPN declared that Buck and Aikman would join the network as the new lead analysts of Monday Night Football after 20 seasons as Fox’s lead broadcast duo.

Aikman and his partner Joe Buck were overheard on a hot mic debating whether a military flyover was necessary before a 2020 NFL game between the Packers and Buccaneers in Tampa when only 15,000 spectators were permitted inside Raymond James Stadium.

Later, a spokeswoman for the military claimed that the flyovers were free of charge. In the meantime, Buck and Aikman were accused of lacking patriotism.

However, in 1992–1993—his first season without an injury—Aikman led the group to a Super Bowl triumph as the Cowboys defeated the Buffalo Bills.
