Page was Google’s CEO from 1997 to August 2001 and again from April 2011 to July 2015, when he moved to become CEO of its newly formed parent Company Alphabet Inc.

According to Bloomberg, Page was diagnosed with vocal cord paralysis in the 1990s. In 2013, he disclosed his ailment. He claimed it softened his voice and made extended speeches more difficult.

Even though Google has lately come under Fire from President Donald Trump, who has accused it of left-wing bias and antitrust infractions, the 45-year-old Google cofounder has not spoken in public since a TED lecture in 2014.

Google’s top executives were conspicuously absent from a Senate Intelligence Committee meeting last week when Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg spoke.

Democratic Virginia Senator Mark Warner chastised Google’s executives for neglecting to appear.

“Given its size and influence, I would have thought that Google’s leadership would want to demonstrate how seriously it takes these challenges and lead this important public discussion,” he added.

Page’s absence from public life does not imply that he has abandoned the realm of technology.

Bloomberg reports that Page has abandoned corporate deals at Google in favor of futuristic ventures that pique his curiosity.

Page, for example, has made significant investments in flying car businesses such as Kitty Hawk and BlackFly.

Page has always maintained his privacy, but his absence from public life may irritate some now that Google, like social media businesses, is under scrutiny.
