According to general manager Kyle Davidson, the team’s longstanding center, which turns 35 on April 29, will not be re-signed.

“I think words fail to adequately summarize everything that Jonathan’s done for the organization, the amazing memories he provided,” added Davidson. “He’ll always be a Blackhawk.”

Chicago’s season finale is against Philadelphia. Toews won his first championship when the Blackhawks defeated the Flyers in the 2010 Stanley Cup Final.

Toews, who has a long history of leadership and two-way play, has 14 goals and 16 assists in 52 games this season. In 1,066 regular-season games, he has 371 goals and 511 assists while playing exclusively for Chicago.

After missing a significant portion of this season due to symptoms, he described as long-term COVID-19 and chronic immune response syndrome, Jonathan Toews, formerly known as “Captain Serious,” may opt to retire.

Over the years, though, his reputation as a serious player has diminished as he has revealed more of his personality. Due to the same health difficulties, he again missed the 2020–21 season.

Jonathan Toews, the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, has decided to take a brief break from skating.

Toews said on Sunday that he has long-term COVID and chronic immune response syndrome symptoms.

Due to chronic immune response syndrome, Toews, 34, missed the 2020–21 season. He came back the previous year and kept up his strong play. For the Blackhawks this season, Toews has contributed 14 goals and 14 assists in 46 games.

Toews hasn’t played, though, since January 28. In the coming weeks, he will concentrate on improving his health and healing.
