Zijie Yan was a 38-year-old Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He began working at the University in June 2019 and was loved by many.
Before that, he was an assistant professor at Clarkson University from August 2015 to June 2019. Likewise, Yan was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the University of Chicago between October 2011 and July 2015.
Furthermore, Yan’s research interests included optical Trapping and Manipulation, Microfluidics, Holography, and Electronic and Photonics Nanomaterials.
His name came into the media prominence when his death was shared following a deadly shooting on Monday.

Zijie Yan death came as a shock to many people as he was shot and killed in Monday’s on-campus shooting. Tailei Qi is the person who shot and killed Yan.
It has been noted that Yan served as academic advisor to Qi. They even co-authored research papers. Taipei allegedly shot Yan in the Caudill Labs building, provoking a campus-wide shutdown and hours-long manhunt as students, faculty and staff hid in place.
Furthermore, it is still too early to establish a definitive motive. While Qi’s car was found on campus and seized, the firearm used in the shooting has not yet been recovered.

Zijie Yan obituary has been posted by many sources following his demise after a deadly shooting. He was 38 years old at the time of this passing. UNC chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz paid tribute to Yan.
On Wednesday, the university will ring the bell tower at 1:02 p.m., which will be followed by a moment of silence in Zijie’s honor.
Likewise, classes will be canceled on Wednesday and resume on Thursday, which was reported by Kevin. Hundreds of University of North Carolina students gathered on campus Tuesday night in front of the Student Union.

Tailei Qi Arrested For Shooting And Killing UNC Chapel Hill Professor
As said earlier, UNC-Chapel Hill professor Zijie Yan was shot and killed. The suspected murderer has been identified as Tailei Qi, whose age is 34 years.
Qi and Yan worked closely in a department research group over the last year. Shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday, UNC Police got a 911 call about shots fired at the Caudill Labs building on campus.
Upon arrival, police discovered that Yan had been shot and killed. Following that, Qi was arrested and following his detention, a campus-wide lockdown that the shooting had prompted remained in place.
Police also conducted a search for the weapon, and an investigation is going on. So, it is believed that more updates regarding the reason behind Qi’s shooting and killing Yan may be updated.
