Ivan Toney, born in Northampton, England, on March 16, 1996, was raised as a devoted Christian by his mother, Lisa.

She reminds him to say his prayers before each game. Toney shows his faith and pays tribute to his grandparents by pointing his hands to the sky when he scores.

The striker has two sisters, Jemma and Jasmine, and two half-brothers from the same mother.

Lisa raised Toney mostly as a single parent since his father has been absent from his life since childhood.

Due to his parents’ separation, Toney faced financial challenges growing up, and his father’s absence left a void in him despite his mother’s presence.

In 2018, Toney signed for Peterborough United, where he enjoyed a successful spell.

While at Peterborough, he became the top scorer in League One during the 2019-2020 season, scoring 24 goals in 32 appearances.

He also won the club’s Player of the Year award in the same season. In August 2020, Toney signed for Brentford F.C. for a reported club-record fee.

He played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in the 2020-2021 season, scoring 33 goals in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Racial Abuser Of Ivan Toney Received Suspended Jail Sentence

A man found guilty of sending a racist message to Ivan Toney on social media has been given a landmark sentence.

Antonio Neill, aged 24, sent the abusive message to Toney on October 14th, 2022, to which the footballer shared a screenshot on his Instagram account.

Following this, the Northumbria Police, with the support of the Metropolitan Police, conducted a full investigation.

The message, considered a hate crime, was traced to Neill, residing in North Shields. In court, he pleaded guilty to sending the offensive message on January 25, 2023.

Yesterday, he was handed a four-month suspension sentence for the online offense and a three-year football banning order.

This is the first time such a sentence has been issued under the Police, Crime, Sentencing, and Courts Act 2022.

The act allows for banning orders for online hate crimes relating to a person with a prescribed connection to a football organization.
