This condition posed significant challenges to his well-being and required ongoing medical attention. Christy underwent chemotherapy treatment starting in 2017 to combat the illness.
In 2017 he received palliative care at his residence in northside Dublin, supported by a dedicated team and his family.
The care provided in a familiar and comfortable environment aimed to alleviate his suffering during his illness.
Despite his courageous fight, he tragically lost his battle with the health issue, leaving a legacy as a talented musician and beloved figure in the music industry.
Christy faced numerous challenges throughout his life, including overcoming drug addiction, enduring childhood sexual abuse, and battling debilitating depression.
Despite these hardships, Christy expressed gratitude for each day he spent with his family, particularly cherishing milestones like his grandchildren’s Communions and Confirmations.
Unfortunately, Aslan had to cancel future shows due to Christy’s declining health, which profoundly affected the band members.
Dignam is survived by his wife, Kathryn; his daughter Kiera, a singer; his grandsons, Cian and Jake; and granddaughter, Ava.
These beloved family members will carry on his legacy and cherish their shared memories.
