Fred Hickman Obituary And Cause Of Death- American Newscaster Died At The Age Of 66

Fred Hickman was an American broadcaster, a former nightly news anchor, and managing editor for the African-American cable news network Black News Channel.

Additionally, Fred has worked for CNN, YES Network, TBS, and ESPN.

Fred was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois, and after completing his studies at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1978, he joined CNN’s Sports Tonight as an initial co-host in 1980.

Hickman won CableACE awards in 1989 and 1993 and the New York Sports Emmy Award in 2004.

Every year from 1988 to 1993, Fred was nominated for a CableACE (Award for Cable Excellence) for best sports host. In 1989 and 1993, Hickman took home the prize.

Fred received the “sexiest sportscaster” prize from the U.S. Television Fan Association in 1993. In 2004, Hickman won a New York Sports Emmy Award; in 2007, the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame inducted him.

Fred gained notoriety for his hosting roles on several local and cable stations. Along with Van Earl Wright, Nick Charles, and Jerome Jurenovich, Fred was one of CNN’s initial four sports anchors. For co-hosting “CNN Sports Tonight,” Hickman and Charles became well known.

Over three decades, Fred was an anchor for CNN and Turner networks, including TBS. From 2004 to 2008, ESPN employed him as an anchor on SportsCenter and sports-related shows like NBA Coast to Coast and Baseball Tonight.

Hickman was the managing editor and an anchor for Black News Channel at the time of his passing.
