Sam Ponder and her colleague Sage Steele are known for their support for Riley Gaines. Gaines has stepped up to call for transgender athletes to compete in sports against the gender they were born with rather than the gender they identify with.

Ponder recently brought up the subject once more after Gaines posted the messages she had gotten regarding transgender high school runners competing in the female’s division in California.

The ESPN official wrote, “I barely said anything publicly about this issue, and I’ve had so many people message me, stop me in the street, and tell me stories about girls who are afraid to speak up for fear of losing their jobs or being labeled as hateful.”

Ponder added, “It is not hateful to demand “fairness” in sports for women.” However, Armour referred to Ponder’s words as plain old bigotry in her column published on Sunday.

According to Fox News, Armour especially took issue with ESPN Sports Commentator’s decision to speak up on this matter rather than the fact that girl’s and women’s sports don’t receive the same financing as those of boys and men.
