Federal authorities announced Thursday that the man accused of killing his mother at sea in 2016 while on a fishing expedition off the coast of New England has passed away while awaiting trial.

According to the prosecution, it was a plot to inherit millions of dollars. According to court documents submitted on Thursday morning, federal officials dismissed an indictment against him due to his death.

According to the document, Carman passed away “on or about” Thursday, but no information on his cause of death has been made public.

According to his attorney, Carman was held at the Cheshire County Department of Corrections in Keene.

According to representatives of the U.S. attorney’s office in Vermont, Carman was in the custody of U.S. Marshals, who confirmed his death on Thursday morning.

“Mr. Carman was in the custody of the United States Marshal, as are all defendants held pending trial. This morning, the U.S. Marshal declared Mr. Carman dead.

Beyond our public filing, we have no additional comments, according to Fabienne Boisvert-DeFazio, public affairs officer for the Vermont U.S. attorney’s office.
