Sim Wong Hoo, a Singaporean billionaire entrepreneur and inventor, passed away on January 4, 2023. He was survived by his wife, Karen Ngui and daughter.
Wong Hoo was the CEO, chairman and founder of Creative Technology. Creative Technology designed and produced goods for personal computers and digital entertainment devices.
Hoo has received praise for his ideas from the government & business. In 2001, Singapore also honored him with the ‘Bintang Bakti Masyarakat’ for his exceptional business work.
Additionally, Fortune Magazine ranked him as Asia’s Businessman of the Year’s runner-up in January 2001. Wong became Singapore’s youngest billionaire at the age of 45.
He was the first to receive the title of Singaporean Businessman of the Year twice, in 1992 and 1997. He was honored in the Year 2002 by the Singapore Computer Society as “Person of the Year” for his work in the IT sector.

Sim Wong Hoo wife, Karen Ngui And Daughter currently mourns the death of their loved one.
The Company’s board of directors stated in a Thursday filing with the Singapore Exchange that Sim “died away peacefully” without providing any other information. He was 67.
Sim’s wife Karen is a Singaporean woman, & they have been married for over a decade. And the pair is the proud parents to two children.
But Karen prefers to keep her personal information private like other famous people’s spouses. Therefore, the internet now needs more of her data.
Not to mention, he first stressed that starting a family and getting married would result in him having commitments to his family and less freedom to pursue his dreams.
He claimed that being single has allowed him to take greater risks and achieve tremendous success. However, he later got married and had a wonderful family.

The whole Hoo family is mourning the tragic death of Sim Wong, who passed away on January 4, 2023, at age 67.
Sim was raised in a Zhao’an Hokkien family in Singapore and attended Bukit Panjang Government High School.
He earned his degree in 1975 from Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Electrical & Electronic Engineering department, formerly known as Ngee Ann Technical College.
Sadly, he left behind his family on January 4, the Company stated. The Company said in a Thursday filing with the Singapore Exchange that “the Board expresses its profound sadness over the passing of Wong Hoo and offers its condolences to his family.”
According to Yahoo, after Sim passed away, the board of Creative led independent non-executive director Lee Kheng Nam as acting chairman and independent non-executive director Ng Kai Wa as acting vice-chairman for a transitional period.
Additionally, the Company’s Creative Labs Business Unit President, Song Siow Hui, has been named as the Company’s interim CEO by the board.
Sim Wong Hoo Career And Legacy Explored
Sim started his career after receiving his degree. He first worked in the private engineering industry.
Additionally, Sim worked in the private engineering sector for a year after completing the required National Service.
Sim was the Company’s first chairman and CEO when he started Creative in 1981.
He once served as chair of Singapore’s Technopreneurship 21 Private Sector Committee and was regarded as a famous entrepreneur in the city-state.
Similarly, Wong Hoo popularized the term “No U-turn syndrome” in his 1999 book Chaotic Thoughts From The Old Millennium, describing the conventional Singaporean mentality of seeking approval from higher authorities before acting.
