Kirby Puckett, a legendary Twin, and his ex-wife Tonya Puckett-Miller passed away. She and Kirby Puckett were wed from 1986 till 2006.

Former spouse of Minnesota Twins Hall of Famer Kirby Puckett, Tonya Puckett-Miller, passed away at the age of 58. Tonya Puckett Miller Obituary has been revealed by her family.

She passed away on Friday, September 15, according to a condensed obituary page from Brooks Funeral Home. Her death has no recognized reason. 

In 1986, Tonya wed Kirby, and they had two kids while he was a player with the Twins. In 2002, they got divorced.

In 2013, she wed Rev. Dr. Melvin Miller once more. Miller serves as the senior pastor at the Progressive Baptist Church in St. Paul, where Tonya was called the First Lady. 

According to her surviving husband, the Rev. Dr. Melvin Miller of St. Paul’s Progressive Baptist Church, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma in January 2022 and passed away on Friday.

Miller remarked, “She was an amazing mother and a great community leader.” She was strongly committed to the church’s mission and her faith in Jesus Christ. 

How Did Kirby Puckett Wife Die?

Tonya Hudson was born on May 12, 1965, in St. Paul to Edina native Margaret Hudson, who is still alive today. 

Puckett-Miller grew up in Brooklyn Park and north Minneapolis. Despite his legal issues, she and Puckett separated in 2002 after getting hitched in 1986.

Following their divorce, Puckett-Miller turned their attention to philanthropy, raising millions for groups including Children’s Heartlink and the Puckett Scholars program, which offers financial aid to students of color enrolled at the University of Minnesota. 

She cared for distressed kids in her own house through a Christian group called Safe Families.

She also joined the Bible Study Fellowship, where one of the organizers informed her that they had been asking God to match her with a spouse. 

Miller claims that his late wife informed the friend they shared, “I’m absolutely uninterested. I would only get married if a man knocked on my door.

Miller entered Puckett-Miller’s life in just this way when a friend of theirs enquired about helping Kirby Jr., a student at Augsburg University, with some arithmetic. “I said, ‘Sure, I’ll go help him,’ and I came walking up to her door,” he remarked. She was an incredible, incredible woman.

Miller worked as a high school math teacher before entering the ministry. 

Family Mourns The Loss

Puckett-Miller and Miller have seven children, including two from her marriage to Puckett, Minneapolis-based Catherine and Kirby Jr., and one son, now 14-year-old Tyson Miller.

She is also survived by her in-laws, Eunice and Earl Miller, as well as her stepchildren Martin Miller, Mariah Miller, Mikal Miller, and Morgan Carrillo.

She also leaves behind her grandchildren Brendan Draper, Nairobi Nelson, Bailey O’Brien, Savannah Puckett, and Kirby Puckett III.

After suffering a severe stroke, Kirby Puckett passed away on March 6, 2006, in Phoenix.

On Thursday at noon, a celebration of life is scheduled for Progressive Baptist, 1505 Burns Avenue, with visitors starting at 11 a.m.
